Cynthia A. Sottie obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Ghana, a Masters in Social Work from West Virginia University, USA and her PhD from the Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. She taught for 16 years at the University of Ghana. Separate from teaching she was involved in research, graduate thesis supervision, academic advising and mentoring of students. Cynthia’s past and ongoing research include International Social Work with a focus on the experiences of children living under complex and challenging conditions; her research also focused on ways to inspire young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to break out of the cycle of poverty/vulnerability; enhancing student educational outcomes; research on illness and stigma, and community-based mental health care.
